Introduction to the Conference

Allah (the Exalted) says in the Qur’an, “Thus We have made you a just nation, that you be witnesses over mankind
and the Messenger (Muhammad) be a witness over you”
[Al-Baqarah 2:143]

The purpose of this convention is to connect the fine lines between our faith, our family, and our future in a balanced manner. The Qur’an directs Muslims to be people of moderation and fairness. We therefore need to remind ourselves constantly what Islam means to us in facing the challenges of life since Islam is both a religion and a way of life for Muslims.

A balanced life could be achieved in several ways. First, through spiritual guidance to the path that leads to the Merciful Creator. Second, through taking the role of responsible stewardship of the earth by being positive and productive citizens.

Currently, there is a lot of negative focus on Islam in the world in general, and in the United States in particular. It is therefore incumbent upon Muslims to strive hard to change these misconceptions that are perpetuated through the media.

Islam endorses establishing strong family relationships. The unit of family has served as the foundation for civilization throughout human existence on earth. Thus, the convention will provide the audience with tips for building families that grow with good character and healthy relationships.

A recent Pew Research Center survey showed that American Muslims have a crucial role to play in bridging cross-cultural and interfaith understanding. Muslims must therefore establish model Islamic schools, centers, and mosques to maintain their community while at the same time contributing to the common good. This convention will provide the forum for fruitful dialogue and inspirational agenda.

Hopefully, each member of the family will find an activity that meets their needs. Let’s all meet at the convention to spend together a weekend of peace, learning, and hope. Come one, come all!
